John Manningham entered Magdalene College Cambridge (B.A. 1596); he was incorporated at Oxford (1597) and entered the Middle Temple in 1605. From 1612 he lived as a country gentleman in Kent. Manningham's diary, discovered by John Payne Collier in 1831, was kept while he was studying law in London and contains accounts of performances of Shakespeare's plays.
