Sir John Roe

(1581-1608)


Sir John Roe was born at Higham Hill, near Walthamstow, in Essex and matriculated at Queen's College Oxford in 1597. In 1605 he fought and was severely wounded in the Netherlands. Roe was an acquaintance of Ben Jonson and John Donne; seven of his nine poems appear in early published collections of Donne's verses.
