Born in Sussex, William Pattison was educated at Appleby School under Richard Yates before entering Sidney Sussex College as a sizar in 1724. He died in poverty, his library reduced to an imperfect copy of Browne's Britannia's Pastorals. He was supported in his last days by Edmund Curll.
