John Edwards, the "water-poet of Derby," was the son of shoemaker of Fulneck near Leeds. He was employed as a weaver before earning his living as a liquor merchant at Derby. In 1810 Edwards met William Wordsworth, who quotes from his "All Saints Church" in the Essay on Epitaphs.
