Edward Alleyn

(1566-1626)


An associate of Philip Henslowe, Edward Alleyn was born in London and performed for the Earl of Worcester's Players (1586), with the Lord Admiral's Company, and with Lord Strange's Company. With the profits from his successful theatrical career, Alleyn founded and managed Dulwich College (1613-16). He married one of John Donne's daughters and patronized the poets Thomas Dekker and John Taylor.
