Francis Beaumont the Elder

(1545 ca.-1598)


This Francis Beaumont, father of the dramatist, was the son of John Beaumont, Master of the Rolls. He entered Peterhouse, Cambridge as a fellow-commoner in 1563-64, and afterwards practiced law at the Inner Temple. He represented Aldborough in Parliament (1572) and was Serjeant-at-Law (1598).
