Almost nothing is known of Robert Bedingfield, who entered Hart Hall Oxford from Westminster School (B.A. 1741, M.A. 1743). He seems to have lived at Oxford for about a decade after taking his degrees, where he knew Spence and the Wartons. Bedingfield actively supported Thomas Warton's election to the Poetry Professorship at Oxford. He is not the "Bedingfield" mentioned in the correspondence of Gray and Mason.
