ALEXANDER CUNNINGHAM, a critic of acknowledged learning, often confounded with the preceding [Alexander Cunningham, 1654-1737], was a native of Ayrshire. Early in life he went to Holland, where he is supposed to have taught the civil and canon law. He published the works of Horace, with animadversions on Bentley's edition of that poet, in 2 vols, 8vo, 1721. He died in the Hague in December, 1730.
