John Gilbert Cooper, jun. of Thurgarton in Nottinghamshire, was the son of a gentleman of family and fortune. After passing through Westminster school, he became fellow commoner of Trinity College, Cambridge, and resided there two or three years. Soon afterwards he married, and settled at his family seat, where he died in April 1769, after a long and excruciating illness arising from the stone.
