1789 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

John Gilbert Cooper

Anonymous, in Bell's Classical Arrangement of Fugitive Poetry (1789-97) 1:174.

Mr Cooper was of Thurgarton in the County of Nottingham, and possessed from his father a considerable fortune. He received his grammatical education at Westminster, and afterwards passed between two and three years at Cambridge, as a fellow-commoner of Trinity. Having married early he retired to his paternal seat, and there died, in 1769, of the stone.
