1762 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Robert Lloyd

William Rider, in Living Authors of Great Britain (1762) 21.

This Gentleman was formerly Usher to Westminster School. He has publish'd a Miscellaneous Collection of Poems by Subscription; of which we may properly say what Martial has said of his Epigrams, "Sunt quaedam bona, sunt multa mediocrita, sunt plura mala." The Rosciad having been father'd upon him, he declar'd himself, by Advertisement, not to be the Author of it, and upon that Occasion wrote an Epistle to Mr. Churchill.
