This most respectable and ingenious divine, who is a native of Scotland, distinguished himself very early as a poet of superior powers, particularly by a beautiful paraphrase of Psalm CXLVIII. written at the age of sixteen, and which, even at that time, was ascribed to writers of the first-rate eminence.
