1783 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

William Vernon

Isaac Reed, in Pearch, Supplement to Dodsley (1783) 2:186.

This writer was born at Wolverhampton, of parents who could afford to give him no more education than barely to read and write English. He was put apprentice to a buckle maker, but after a short time entered himself as a soldier in the Old Buffs. He obtained his discharge from the regiment about the year 1760, and became corrector of a press, but did not long survive that period.
