1798 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Bp. William Cleaver

David Rivers, in Literary Memoirs of Living Authors (1798) 1:102.

Rev. William Cleaver, D.D., Lord Bishop of Chester, to which See he was promoted on the translation of Dr. Porteus to the bishoprick of London. His lordship has published two remarkable Discourses on the Lord's Supper, in which he introduces some very severe, and perhaps not very liberal, Reflections on the late pious and excellent Bishop Hoadley.
