1829 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. George Richards of Boston

Samuel Kettell, in Specimens of American Poetry (1829) 2:27-28.

George Richards was born in Rhode Island. He lived for some time in Boston, where he became a preacher of the Universalist persuasion. He afterwards removed to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and thence to Philadelphia. He has been deceased, we believe, twenty years or more. He wrote much poetry in the Massachusetts magazine, among other pieces, a long poem called the Zenith of Glory, which was published from time to time in that journal.
