Elihu Hubbard Smith, a native of Lichfield, in Connecticut, educated at New York, in the college of Newhaven, who commenced the study of physick, at 17, under his father. In 1791, he attended the medical lectures at Philadelphia, but removed, 1793, to New-York, where he was appointed, 1796, one of the physicians to the hospital, and where he continued to his death indefatigable in the pursuit of science and discharge of his duty, and died universally regretted, having published several pieces.
