R. P. GILLIES. — This gentleman, a member of the Faculty of Advocates, was nephew of Lord Gillies, for many years one of the Judges in the Court of Sessions. Mr. Gillies was one of the early contributors to Blackwood's Magazine, and the first editor of the Foreign Quarterly Review. He is entitled to a place in this catalogue, as being author of nearly all those translations from the German and Danish drama which appeared in Blackwood from about 1820 to 1826, under the titles Horae Germanicae, and Horae Danicae. He published Memoirs of a Literary Veteran, 3 vols., 1851, containing an account of his life, and anecdotes of his contemporaries. Mr. Gillies died at London, Nov., 1858.
