WASHINGTON ALLSTON was born in South Carolina, and received his education in New England. He was graduated at Harvard University in 1800. He has since made himself well known to the world as a painter, in which capacity he has given evidence of a genius of the first order. He has resided in the course of his labors in Italy and England, but is at present in Boston, employing his pencil upon an historical subject of a highly interesting character. His poems, consisting of The Sylphs of the Seasons, and a few short pieces, were published in 1813.
