George Crabbe, private chaplain to the late duke of Rutland. He was originally a journeyman apothecary, and in that capacity produced the Library, a poem. Having sent this performance in manuscript to Mr. Burke, he was received with every degree of countenance, and encouraged to change his profession for that of a divine. His subsequent performances have been the Village, and the Newspaper, two poems.
