1788 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Edmond Malone

Anonymous, in Catalogue of five hundred Celebrated Authors (1788).

A native of Ireland, and son to the late attorney-general for that kingdom. He has written several prologues and epilogues, and published in 1780, a Supplement to the Edition of Shaksepear by doctor Johnson and Mr. Steevens, in two volumes octavo. A complete edition of Shakespear in ten volumes octavo is now publishing under the inspection of Mr. Malone. He appears to possess more critical acumen and ingenuity, than any other of the commentators upon Shakespear.
