Susanna Duncombe

Anonymous, Obituary in Monthly Magazine 34 (December 1812) 472.

In the Cathedral Precincts, in her 87th year, Mrs. Duncombe, relict of the late Rev. John D., M.A. vicar of Herne, rector of St. Andrews and St. Mary Bredman, Canterbury, and one of the six preachers of the cathedral. Mrs. Duncombe was the daughter of Joseph Highmore, eq. who was eminent in his profession as a painter, and in habits of friendship with the literary men of his age, from which circumstance, Mrs. D. before and after her marriage with Mr. D., one of the polite scholars of his day, became the friend and associate of the most celebrated authors of her time. She lived beloved and respected, and died lamented by all who had the happiness of knowing her. We shall be able to give a farther account of this lady in a future number.
