John D., M.A. vicar of Herne, rector of St. Andrews and St. Mary Bredman, Canterbury, and one of the six preachers of the cathedral. Mrs. Duncombe was the daughter of Joseph Highmore, eq. who was eminent in his profession as a painter, and in habits of friendship with the literary men of his age, from which circumstance, Mrs. D. before and after her marriage with Mr. D., one of the polite scholars of his day, became the friend and associate of the most celebrated authors of her time.
