EDMUND LEWIS LENTHAL SWIFTE (younger son of Theophilus Swifte of Goodrich, Herefordshire, who d. Sept. 1816). b. 20 June 1777; member of the Lawyers' corps in Ireland 1796-1803; called to Irish bar 1803; barrister M.T. 5 May 1815; keeper of the Regalia in Tower of London 1814-52, when he retired on pension; a wit, scholar, and poet; author of a translation of Jocelin's Life and acts of St. Patrick 1809; Anacreon in Dublin, with notes critical, historical and explanatory, 3 ed. 1814, anon.; A reply to Denis Scully's work on the grievances of Roman catholics in Ireland under the penal laws 1811 or 1812, anon.; m. 4 times and had 28 children. d.
