Robert Pearse Gillies

Anonymous, "R. P. Gillies, Esq." A New Biographical Dictionary of 3000 Cotemporary Public Characters (1825) 2:221-22.

R. P. GILLIES, ESQ. is the nephew of Dr. Gillies. His first work was published anonymously in 1813, and was intitled "Childe Alarique, a Poet's Reverie," with other poems. In the following year he sent from the press "The Confessions of Sir Henry Longueville," a novel, in 2 volumes. Mr. Gillies is the translator of several of the scenes from German and Danish tragedies, which have been printed in Blackwood's Magazine, and are executed in such a masterly manner, that it is to be hoped that he will carry into effect his intention of translating a series of those dramas.
