1791 ca. ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. Henry Kett

George Huddesford, 1791 ca.; Roger Lonsdale, ed., Poems of John Bampfylde (1988) 20-21.

After [Thomas Warton's] death many years later Huddesford is said to have chalked a couplet on the walls of the college:

The glorious sun of Trinity is set,
And nothing left but farthing-candle Kett,

an offensive reference to a less than inspiring Fellow of Trinity.
