1822 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Henry Gally Knight

George Crabbe to Mary Leadbeater, 25 November 1822; Leadbeater Papers (1862) 2:376.

I have some not perfectly-formed intention of publishing three or four pieces of versification, but I want exertion. I have a tale related by a gentleman who writes poetry himself, Mr. Henry Gally Knight. I would have persuaded him to try his hand — or his head, if you please — at his own tale; but he would not — and therefore I did. I cannot relate the story, but if printed you shall have it if I can send it.
