1599 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. William Covell

John Weever, "In Gulielmum Covel" Weever, Epigrammes in the oldest Cut, and newest Fashion (1599) sig. D6v.

Covel thy mind thou hast already season'd,
With salt of wit, and relish of all Artes,
With Plato oft, and Aristotle reason'd,
Seeking all meanes to beautify all partes,
That twixt thy lips divinitie doth fall,
Like Berill drops from some faire cristall wall.
