1640 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Sir Walter Raleigh

Anonymous, "Sir Walter Rawleygh" Wits Recreations (1640) sig. Cc2v.

If spite be pleas'd, when as her object's dead,
Or Malice pleas'd, when it hath bruiz'd the head
Or envie pleas'd, when it hath what it would,
Then all are pleas'd, for Rawleyh's blood is cold,
Which were it warme and active would o'ercome
And strike the two first blind, the other dumbe.
