1815 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Edmund Lewis Swift

John Taylor Esq., "To Edmund Lewis Swift, Esq. of the Regalia Office, Tower, of his Poems of Waterloo, &c. &c." The Sun (11 November 1815).

The REGAL JEWELS, treasures rare!
We see confided to thy care,
But when we view thy mental store,
Thy genius, judgment, classic lore,
Thy worth in the domestic sphere,
Where all the moral ties endear—
We dwell on these, forgetting them—
Thy mind by far the BRIGHTER GEM.
