1639 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Sir Aston Cokayne

Thomas Bancroft, "To Aston Cokaine, Esquire" Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639) sig. D2.

He that with Learning, Vertue doth combine,
May (though a Laick) passe for a divine
Piece of perfection. Such to all mens sight
Appeares your selfe: who, if you take delight
In these composures, your applausive show
Will stampe conceits, and make them currant goe.
