Thomas Tickell

John Winstanley, "Epitaph on Thomas Tickell, Esq." 1740; Winstanley, Poems written Occasionally (1742) 13.

Thy Soul from Earth, O! gentle Tickell, flies
Thine Addison to meet above the Skies:
Below close linkt in Genius, and in Love,
Improve your Friendships, happy Pair above:
In joyous Concord, and harmonious Lays,
Resound alternate Great Jehova's Praise.
And tho' two Kingdoms in their Wombs contain
Your mortal Parts, divided by the Main,
If tuneful Numbers lasting Fame can give,
Your Names together shall for ever live.
