1811 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. James Hervey

G. J., "The Two Herveys" St. James's Chronicle (17 January 1811).

Two HERVEYS had a mutual wish
To please in separate stations,
The one invented SAUCE for FISH,
The other "MEDITATIONS."

Each has his pungent powers applied
To aid the dead and dying,
That relishes a Soul when fried—
This saves the Soul from frying.
