1815 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Capel Lofft

Anonymous, "Lofftiana" The Sun (4 August 1815).

Whose name appears in print so oft?
Why that of scribbling CAPEL LOFFT.
Whose works, if ever read, are scofft?
Why those of silly CAPEL LOFFT.
Who, when he speaks, straight down is cough'd?
Why that dull Proser CAPEL LOFFT.
Whose brains are addled, few, and soft?
The tea-spoon brains of CAPEL LOFFT.

ANOTHER.
LOFFT says he knows not this and that,
And in his negatives is pat;
But, Sir, 'tis now full time to shew
If there is any thing you know.
