1813 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

John Wilson Croker

M—l, "Impromptu" The Star (22 July 1813).

Let COCHRANE maintain our Tara spirits are broken,
All the worwld will conclude him a joker;
His Lordship's assertions in Commons when spoken,
Were completely refuted by CROKER!

It has since been confirm'd by the brave Captain BROKE,
That JOHN BULL with his less seamen and cannon;
Can drub Yankee Doodle — for our Hearts of Oak
Made the Chesapeake strike to the Shannon!
