1806 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Dr. Henry Harington

William Meyler, Note, in Meyler, Poetical Amusement on the Journey of Life (1806) 198-99n.

DR. HARINGTON is the representative of a family which, as Legislators, Warriors, Scholars, and Wits, flourished many centuries in this kingdom, and were in possession of immense estates in the neighbourhood of Bath. As an inspired Musician, pleasing Poet, and profound Mathematician, who does not know the merit of Dr. Harington? And, let me add, who but highly venerates him for his great Professional Knowledge, the impartial discharge of his duties as a Magistrate, and for the charms of his amusing conversation and recollective powers?
