1725 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Aaron Hill

Thomas Cooke, in Battle of the Poets (1725) 6.

HILL usher'd in a party-colour'd Train,
In Merit equal to himself, and vain.
His brasen Coat of Mail was cover'd through,
With Stripes of Silk, each of a various hue;
While Sattin Streamers o'er his Helmet play,
To emulate the Sun, and paint the day.
