By this ardour of philology, writers of a highly respectable character are not unfrequently betrayed into an unseasonable parade of verbal criticism. The works of Dr Jortin, for example, exhibit a very considerable share of ingenuity and of learning; but their value would perhaps have been enhanced, if he had sometimes forgotten that he was so accomplished a philologer.
