1805 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. John Upton

Henry John Todd, in Works of Spenser (1805) 1: Sig. A6.

With the use of other manuscript information by Mr. Thomas Warton I have been also indulged by his learned nephew; from whom, I may here be permitted to add, the world may shortly expect a most interesting and valuable edition of the poetical Works of Dryden, with the notes of Dr. Joseph Warton, and with his own. A Copy of Mr. Upton's text of the Faerie Queene, with his own manuscript remarks in the margin, has been also kindly entrusted to me by the reverend Mr. Dunster. But these remarks are merely intended as references to the subject of the notes, which were printed after the text; a circumstance alluded to by Mr. Upton himself.
