1606 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Michael Drayton

Anonymous, in Second Part of Returne from Pernassus (1606) Sig. B2.

IUDICIO.
Draytons sweete muse is like a sanguine dye,
Able to ravish the rash gazers eye.

INGENIOSO. How ever, he wants one true note of a Poet of our times, and that is this, hee cannot swagger it well in a Taverne, nor dominere in a hot-house.
