1778 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. Robert Potter

Horace Walpole to William Mason, 24 January 1778; Letters, ed. Cunningham (1906) 7:24.

There is a Mr. Potter too, I don't know who, that has published a translation of Aeschylus, and as far as I have looked is a good poet. I am sure he has taste, for in his preface he speaks like an initiate of Elfrida and Caractacus [by William Mason]. I am delighted with Prometheus, though I do not approve of a mad cow for first woman.
