1763 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. William Mason

Thomas Balguy to Joseph Warton, 3 February 1763; Wooll, Biographical Memoirs of Joseph Warton (1806) 288.

Having neglected for some time to write to Mr. Hurd, I know not how he is employing himself; but it is credibly reported that he is at work again for the press. Mr. Mason is within less then ten miles of me; but I have not yet seen him. Some say he is writing a Comedy; others, that he is going to be married. The reports may both be true; but I think it rather more likely they should both be false.
