1762 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. John Ogilvie

William Shenstone to Thomas Percy, 14 November 1762; Letters, ed. Hecht (1909) 89.

Sheridan's Pamphlet has some just remarks which were new to me; but he is not always right in the application of his Rules, and it is a cursed quarto of half a guinea.

Ogilvie's Poems the same — that also ornamented with Cuts from the author's own designs. The Specimens that appear in the monthly review give me no Pleasure.
