Mr. Erskine of Mar, a gentleman indeed, wrote to my friend Glenriddell to know if I was really out of place on account of my Political principles; & if so, he proposed a subscription among the friends of Liberty for me, which he offered to head, that I might be no pecuniary loser by my political Integrity. This was the more generous, as I had not the honor of being known to Mr. Erskine.
