1795 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Hannah More

Elizabeth Montagu to Elizabeth Carter, 1795; Reginald Blunt, Mrs. Montagu, 1762-1800 (1923) 2:371.

Mrs. Garrick's various engagements prevented her indulging me in a long visit. I could not learn from her so perfect an account of Mrs. Hannah More's health as I wished, she sent me her last admirable ballad [Cheap Repository Tract] of which I have collected a number, and dispersed them amongst my country neighbours, who, I am sorry to say, are much disposed to rioting. I have enclosed one of these ballads, that in case you have not already seen it, you may recommend it to your bookseller at Deal.
