1832 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Dr. Robert Anderson

James Hogg, in Autobiography (1832); Works (1865) 2:463.

When I finally learned from [John] Wilson that it was the poet of the Lakes whom I was to meet, I was overjoyed.... We called on several noblemen and gentlemen in company; and all the while he was in Scotland I loved him better and better. Old Dr. Robert Anderson travelled along with us as far as the sources of the Yarrow, and it was delightful to see the deference which Wordsworth paid to that venerable man.
