1800 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Rev. John Bidlake

Nathan Drake, in Literary Hours (1800) 2:190.

In the pieces of Mr. Hurdis are to be found several faithful draughts from nature beautifully coloured, and unoccupied by any preceding artist. Sotheby's Tour through Wales, and Bidlake's Sea display also much that is valuable both in design and execution, and, upon the whole, we may assuredly say that in no period has descriptive poetry been cultivated with more success.
