1824 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Amelia Opie

Henry Crabb Robinson, 14 July 1824; Diary, Reminiscences, and Correspondence (1870; 1872) 1:409.

July 14th. — (At the Assizes at Norwich.) Had an hour's chat with Mrs. Opie. She received me very kindly, and as a Quakeress in dress and diction. I found her very agreeable. She talked in her usual graceful and affectionate manner. She mentioned "Lord" Gifford — surely a slip of the tongue.
