1824 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Alexander Wilson

Robert Watt, in Bibliotheca Britannica (1824) 2:972.

Alexander WILSON, a most singular but unfortunate genius, celebrated in the scientific world by his Ornithology of America, but better known in his native land as the Author of Watty and Meg, a Poem which will charm as long as a taste for truth of description and Scottish characteristics exist, was born at Paisley in Scotland; died in America in 1813, about the age of 45.
