1806 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

Peter Bayley

Peter L. Courtier, in Lyre of Love (1806) 2:154.

This gentleman has published a volume of miscellaneous poetry. His taste seems to have been determined by admiration for the genius of Wordsworth, and his diction to have been formed by the perusal of Southey and Coleridge. He is an interesting and elegant writer, whose productions are worthy of being rescued from the undistinguished mass of modern poetry.
