John Abraham Haraud, who Germanized his faculties until he became nearly unintelligible. He was fond of quoting from, and prosing about, this "Epic" [Haraud's Descent into Hell]. One day, he said to Douglas Jerrold, "Have you ever seen my Descent into Hell?" Jerrold, turning his green and fishy eyes upon the querist, emphatically answered, "No, I wish I had."
