1789 ENGLISH POETRY 1579-1830: SPENSER AND THE TRADITION

John Fletcher

Twin Imps! or beauteous Stars of Fame!
BEAUMONT and FLETCHER add their name:
With milder radiance please our eyes;
Alternate set, alternate rise.
But when with SHAKESPEARE'S glorious Sun
In rival course they strive to run,
Their splendours sink, their glories hide,
In feebler fires, and meaner pride.
